Wichita Survey Shows Creditable
Use Private Cars, But More
Group Riding Necessary

Topeka, Oct. 21 (AP)–Kansans have been warned by the state highway traffic advisory committee they must increase group riding and make more use of public transportation facilities when gasoline rationing becomes effective. A survey made at Wichita showed an average of 3.5 persons in each private vehicle, a creditable average, the committee said, but still leaving room for improvement.

Ninety-three percent of the Wichita workers depend on private automobiles to get to work, the survey showed, five percent on public transportation and two percent use bicycles, motorcycles or walk. The committee suggested 80 percent should use automobiles, 16 percent use buses and 4 percent walk or use other means.
