Each spring and fall, the Great Plains witnesses the migration of a vast number of bird species. The Harris's Sparrow depicted here winters throughout much of the southern Great Plains, but is usually only a migrant in the Dakotas. This photo depicts a spring migrant as it moves through Minnehaha County, South Dakota (May 6, 2001).
